Due to a redesign in Oaklea Middle School’s 2015-2016 schedule, middle schoolers now get to end their day with an enrichment class (or two) of their choosing. From zentangle classes to edible science, Oaklea teachers have put their creativity and passion in to developing new and exciting opportunities for students that rotate every six weeks. ArtCore is supporting enrichment classes by staffing a teaching artist every six weeks.

So far fifth graders worked with puppeteer, Noah McClain Philpot to create a variety of puppets and a 30 foot dragon that paraded around the school.

Currently fifth through eighth graders are working with graphic designer, Jessilyn Brinkerhoff, to learn the elements of art and principles of design. Jessilyn is introducing students to open-source and free design programs that they can easily access anywhere with an internet connection.

Up next, ceramics with Andrea DiPalma Yansane!
